Sewtember Day Seventeen - Another Funeral

A friend of mine put a comment on Facebook this morning which was a challenge for anyone interested to create something this week. I read the challenge wondering how many people would actually take it on. I feel like I am constantly creating things and while I'm at home with the kidlets, it gives me a great sense of achievement when I design and complete projects. 

This extends way back to before I was even in School. I have always loved to make things. I remember being really small, maybe 3 or 4 and I would make ponchos for my dolls by getting a piece of fabric, folding it into quarters and snipping off the corner to put the doll's head through. I also remember the my friend's mum found a pillowcase with the corner cut out for the same poncho style thing. I don't think her mum thought it was so cute though. Most of the ponchos then had a ribbon tied around the waist to hold them on. I recently found a doll here with the same kind of poncho dress and ribbon combo, in my assistant's toy box. She kindly alerted me to the fact that the doll was only wearing a piece of fabric and I should make a real dress for her...when I was little that WAS a real dress! How times have changed...

Anyway, today I went to yet another funeral. 

We heard a couple of people talking about my Great Uncle's life and even though it was hard to keep up completely - the kids were a bit distracting - I couldn't help but think of my Grandad (his brother) and how much I miss him. It's so hard when you lose someone close to you. I'm kinda over it. Hopefully there won't be anymore funerals for us in the next while. Or at all.

Sewtember.

I got a tiny bit of sewing stuff done today, but only on the things I can't show you. I'm sorry. I know that's boring, but tomorrow I'm really hoping to get back into the place-mats and the (real) dress. I bought the rest of the things I needed to complete it today. I realised the other day that the time I set to have the dress finished is also when I have 2 kidlet's parties to host, so I'm planning to get it done in the next couple of weeks instead. Fingers crossed!

Sewtember Day Sixteen - Sew Sew Sunday

Yay for Sunday! I took the dress to church and tried it on my "client" (haha, sounds so professional...) and it fit! AWESOME! I almost couldn't believe it, but it makes sense. I did measure her first and check it against the pattern, so why shouldn't it fit?

So after church I came home on a bit of a high and a bit exhausted, so I had a quick (pretend) sleep and then got straight into the next thing on the list. Unfortunately for you I can't show you just yet, but maybe in a week or so...that might have given it away to some of you.

How have you been going? I don't often hear from anyone. I have no idea what I need to do to make it easier for people to comment here. I hope it's not too hard to change, I love getting comments and hearing from other people.

Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to a funeral and I'm not sure how much sewing I'll actually get done, but hopefully enough to be able to show you something...

Sewtember Day 6 - Thanksgiving

So you probably remember me telling you that I was at a Funeral yesterday, well today I was at the Thanksgiving service for the same friend. How special is that! He really was a wonderful person with a heart for telling people about Jesus.

Given the style of today's service, I thought I'd tell you some of the things I'm thankful for everyday and maybe you can share some too.

Now, everyone would say this, I think, but I'm thankful for my family and friends. I really wouldn't be me without them. The support and love along with the challenges and critiques are the things that make my family my family and me me.

I'm thankful for my surroundings, especially in Spring. Each day is bringing new blossoms and warmth and it's so inspiring to see how the environment around me changes. I love flowers! I'm a terrible gardener, but the people living on either side of me are really good at it and their gardens are beautiful!

I'm thankful for little things too, like strawberries and hugs and flushing toilets and sewing...

I'm sewing around the petals on the place-mats tonight.

Sewtember Day Five - Road Trip

Today I drove with my sister and the kidlets to the funeral of a dear friend of ours. He was by far the most beautiful person I have ever met! He was so much better at being Godly and even saying hi in the street was encouraging. His wife is also one of the most beautiful people and she knows so much more about God and His word than I could ever imagine filling my head with. Together they were wonderful examples of all things pure, right, excellent, praiseworthy, lovely, admirable, noble and true. It is sad that He is no longer a part of this world, but I know he is in the most awesome place and I feel blessed to have known him, even for the relatively short time that I have. I'm hoping to spend some more quality time with his wife too. It's funny the things you remember at weddings and funerals, and one thing that comes to mind about this lovely man is that he called me "whistle-worthy" once. In that moment, I felt so special! He really was lovely!

It was a stunner of a day weather wise! Totally Gorgeous!

This is the sunset we watched on the way home. It was an awesome end to a fantastic day! I know that sounds odd seeing as we went to a funeral, but it was not a sad funeral. It was joyous and beautiful. I also had a wonderful time with my sister. We chatted all the way there and sang together all the way home. I love her! And far out she can sing!!!

So after such a great day, I came home at the same time as hubby got home from work and I was so - I don't know - rejuvenated (?) that I actually did a tiny bit of work in the short time before bed...obviously I'm not quite in bed yet, but I'm on the way...

These are going to be place-mats for someone in my family for Christmas - Yay, finally something for Christmas! Hubby thinks an outline of black stitching around the flowers, I thought just the same colour as the linen. What do you think?

I can't believe how good I feel right now. Going to bed just seems like a waste of time! But I guess it's important...oh well.

May Challenge Day Twenty-Seven

I can't believe it's day 27 already! Woah! I feel like I'm losing time or something...

Today was great! I went to church, had lunch with my church family and then came home to some craft. Yay! I got onto making the prize for my facebook competition winner...an owl tea cosy...so cute. I also got my quilt panel ironed.

Oh!! Janelle Wind replied to my comment on facebook today....I'm totally star-struck! I immediately got the giggles and all my worries went away...hahaha. How funny is that! Most exciting thing to happen to me in a while obviously.

Anyway, tomorrow is Monday and there's always a list of things to do on Mondays, so I'd better get to bed so I can "get up out of bed, have a yawn and scratch my head and say Thank you, it's a brand new day..." Sorry, the song popped into my head. I'm off to bed, nighty night!
